Calls on Community to "Recommend the Richmond Region"
[Media Release April 26]-- It's a new day in tourism for the Richmond Region. In honor of National Travel and Tourism Week, coming up May 4-12, regional tourism representatives hosted by Richmond Region Tourism gathered recently at the Westin Richmond where together they proclaimed "I am Tourism." The theme of the event was "Who is Tourism" and Richmond Region Tourism, formerly the Richmond Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau (RMCVB), announced its new identity and empowered everyone in the Richmond Region to become proactively involved in regional tourism efforts that drive the local economy.
Richmond Region Tourism President and CEO Jack Berry reminded attendees that they are all part of Richmond Region tourism. "It's about the fact that every one of us benefits from the economic effects of visitors coming to our region. When you combine Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico and New Kent counties and the city of Richmond, visitors spent nearly $2 billion dollars here in 2011. That's more than $5 million a day!"
