Guest Speakers

Colette Carlson, MA

colette_carlson_spring_2012Audiences worldwide love the funny way Colette Carlson, MA, speaks the truth while inspiring them to maximize relationships, revenue and results. Only by telling the truth on herself was she able to overcome her own fears and addictions that kept her 50 lbs. overweight and making underwhelming choices. Whether she's opening for Suze Orman or speaking in house at Fortune 100 companies to include Microsoft, Boeing, New York Life, PepsiCo and Cisco, Colette brings her cutting-edge content and incredible sense of fun to every program.

As a human behavior expert she knows her stuff and has the research, education and experience to back it up which is why she's been featured in Success, Working Mother, and Personal Development Magazines, and interviewed on The Success Training Networks's "Made for Succeed" series. Colette's expertise has been sought after in motivational movies, Pass It On and Riches: The 7 Secrets of Wealth, in addition to her monthly column, "Tactfully Speaking" in Business Management Daily,

Her career began as an administrative assistant, then to straight-commissioned sales with legend Tom Hopkins. Colette became the #1 Sales Producer, leaped to Brian Tracy's International organization and applied her sales skills in a corporate environment as National Sales Trainer for US West. In the midst of raising her two daughters, Colette went back to night school to earn her Masters in Human Behavior which certainly helps now that they're teenagers!

Thomas F. Farrell, II

tom-farrellAs chairman, president and chief executive officer of Dominion Resources (NYSE: D), Tom Farrell has emerged as a leading expert on national energy issues and as an advocate of a cohesive national energy policy. In June 2011, he became chairman of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the industry's national trade association.

Headquartered in Richmond, Va., Dominion is one of America's largest energy companies, with a market capitalization of approximately $28 billion and operations in 15 states. In 2011, Dominion was ranked among the "100 Best Corporate Citizens" by Corporate Responsibility magazine, which graded the nation's 1,000 largest public companies based on their efforts in the areas of environment, climate change, human rights, philanthropy, employee relations, financial performance and governance.

In addition, during Farrell's tenure Dominion has been awarded both the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest recognition given to employers for their support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve, and United Way's national Summit Awards for exceptional volunteerism and community impact.

Farrell joined Dominion in 1995 and served in several senior management positions at the holding company and its subsidiaries. Among his first accomplishments was leading Dominion's expansion into international electric generation and distribution markets, including England and South America.

As Dominion refocused itself domestically in 1999, Farrell led the company's simultaneous divestiture of foreign assets and the successful acquisition of another major U.S. energy company, Consolidated Natural Gas, the following year. The combined company became the nation's largest integrated natural gas and electric power company. Since then, under Farrell's direction, Dominion initiated a series of profitable domestic acquisitions to expand its operating base into the Midwest, mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. Today, Dominion is one of the nation's largest power generators, with approximately 28,200 megawatts of production capability. The company also operates the nation's largest natural gas storage system.

Farrell has been one of Virginia's most active CEOs in civic and community affairs. He was recently elected Chair of Colonial Williamsburg's Board of Trustees and of the Virginia Business Council. He served as Rector of the University of Virginia and currently serves on the Board of Visitors at Virginia Commonwealth University and the Board of Directors at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. He is on the Board of Directors for Altria Group, Inc. His passion for education is also reflected in his chairmanship of Governor Robert F. McDonnell's Commission on Higher Education Reform.

In his role as Chair of Edison Electric Institute, he has initiated a national Troops to Energy Jobs program that helps those leaving the armed services to find jobs with electric utilities across the nation. Five electric utilities, including Dominion, are piloting this program.

Tom Farrell services as Chair of the Richmond Performing Arts Center, which transformed the Carpenter Center into a world-class stage for the Richmond Region.

Farrell has appeared on CBS, CNBC, Fox Business News and other national networks, testified before Congress, spoken at major industry forums, and contributed opinion pieces to national and regional newspapers and magazines.

Farrell received both his B.A. in economics and Law Degree from the University of Virginia.

He is married to the former Anne Garland Tullidge and has two sons, Peter and Stuart.
