![]() Our December meeting was a spectacular evening to close out 2009. The view from the 24th Floor at the lit skyline buildings is one of my favorite holiday scenes! The American Youth Harp Ensemble was splendid. These young ladies are so talented in their gift of music. Our guest speaker was our distinguished friend to EWI, Dr. Bill Bosher. You see Dr. Bosher on NBC12 as the Educational Specialist, and is the Executive Director of the Commonwealth Education Policy Institute - a legislative entity created to focus on research, training, and policy analysis. Dr. Bosher was very inspiring as he shared life stories of his career and the lifelong relationships he has made along the way. He inspired us to take time to listen to children, ours or others, and how much an impact that can make on the leaders of tomorrow. What teachers, neighbors, or family members were mentors in your life that guided you to be the person you are today? January is renewal month for EWI. Just as a reminder, renewals are due to Debora Honodel, Treasurer, representing Southern States Cooperative, Inc. by January 31, 2010. The Treasurer then has a report to complete to verify that the information sent to Corporate is accurate and up to date. If you have had a change in your position, title, new Executive, home address, or e-mail, please let us know. You can log into www.ewiconnect.com and update your profile, however, let Debora and I know too. Thank you Debora Honodel and the Budget Committee for your hard work on the 2010 EWI of Richmond Budget. Both the General Operating and Business/Career/Development Program budgets were approved for 2010. Debbie Clark, Past President, representing Universal Corporation presented EWI of Richmond a check for $4,500.00 toward our B/C/DP Program. Debbie's Executive, David Moore, CFO, joined us for our December Membership Meeting, along with Michelle Bailey with Universal Corporation. We cannot thank Universal Corporation and Debbie Clark enough for such a generous donation and believing in the Mission of EWI. What we do in the lives of others through our scholarship program is exceptional. We also received a donation to the Richmond Chapter from Donna Yox, Member at Large, in New York, $200.00 for the chapter to use as it sees fit. Donna is a great friend to our Chapter and is a Past President of the EWI of Buffalo Chapter. Many of you have signed up for committees and the Committee Chairs are reaching out to you to establisht he first committee meeting for the new chapter year. Great job! I look forward to hearing the reports of the exciting plans you have. Our January speaker is one you do not want to miss. Fayette Thackston, Thackston Financial Services, will speak on the topic, "Estate Planning - What you don't know can hurt you." Fayette is an independent Certified Financial Planner. Please tell your Executives, co-workers, friends, and neighbors as this is a topic for all! What a great topic to start our year! Thank you for all your do for EWI of Richmond. I look forward to seeing you on January 14! Christine M. Slate EWI Richmond President, 2009-2010 Barrett Capital Management, LLC
