Because that is what happened in 1923 when the Luck family founded Luck Stone. Luck Stone is a local, regional, and national leader in the crushed stone industry. The company's core purpose is to provide innovative products and business practices that enhance the lives of our associates, our customers, and our community partners. The business units are the Construction Aggregates division, the Charles Luck Stone Center, the Lee Tennis Court Products, and the Luck Stone Development Partners (LDP).

Luck Stone rolled out the red carpet for our April firm night. They provided a tour of The Charles Luck Stone Center (founded in 1977) that was magnificent. Now we know first hand why the write "A Place to Imagine the Possibilities." Then on to tour the newly expanded Corporate Office which was designed to promote collaborative thinking for all teams. A big thank you to Mary Graham, Charles Luck III, as well as the Associates for such a wonderful evening.

I saw Elvis! Memphis, Tennessee was the place to be April 22, 23, 24 as EWI of Memphis hosted the 2010 EWI Spring Conference. It was my first Spring Conference and one of the best EWI conferences that I have attended. The featured topics were Leadership - The Power of Relationships, Philanthropy, How to Share Responsibility, Developing Volunteers, Follow Through, Family Business, and Business Ethics. Kudos to EWI of Memphis for hosting this successful conference.

On the last day, I had the privilege of sharing with all the attendees about the EWI of Richmond 2010 Women Symposium. I share the early vision that Donna Edwards, Advisor, and I had when we attended the "Academy of Leadership On Tour" hosted by EWI of Chattanooga in 2006. Lori Giovannoni taught "Leadership: The Power of the Diverse Communicator" It was an intimate group of 40+ EWI Representatives and she taught "communication skills are the basis for effective leadership in organizations!" Donna and I hung on to every word as she engaged the audience. I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that the leadership training and professional development that I received through EWI, on a local and national level, have improved  my leadership and communication skills. You can tell I am passionate about life long learning. So, it is time to "Giddy Up" , and let's share with our co-workers, our neighbors, our family, our friends about this great opportunity we have in store for them on Jun 12! Please get your registration forms into Debora Honodel, Treasurer, representing Southern States Cooperative now. One of my favorite quotes is "The best way to get something done is to begin." - author unknown. This quote talks about procrastination. Let's not procrastinate; let's help someone today by sharing this opportunity.

I am looking forwad to a wonderful EWI Scholarship Program on May 13 at SunTrust. The judges have picked their winners and I am looking forward to meeting these leaders of tomorrow. In addition, we have ORIENTATION scheduled for 4:00 pm. Many of you have shared that you have never attended an orientation so now is your chance. Have a great month!
