![]() EWISP was a fantastic night! We made a difference in the lives of Samah, Liz, and Tori! What is EWISP and who are Samah, Liz, and Tori? EWISP is the EWI Scholarship Program and has been recognized by Money Magazine as one of the top 12 scholarships in the United States. Students are nominated by their schools to participate in the scholarship competition. Judges select winning students based on their scholastic achievement, leadership qualities, good citizenship and extra-curricular activities. Samah McGona, Elizabeth Peters, and Victoria Rodgers were our EWISP winners. They are rising seniors at Varina High School, James River High School, and Cosby High School. These young women are our leaders of tomorrow and we will be in good hands. They are bright, engaging, and ready to take on the world. It was time to introduce the Barrett Brothers! I had the privilege of inviting David Barrett, President/CEO of Barrett Capital Management, LLC to introduce our guest speaker for the evening, Dr. Paul Barrett. Dr. Barrett is the Dean & Associate Professor, College of Business & Economics of Longwood University. Dr. Barrett gave us a wonderful talk on Scholarship Habits, Changing the World and One Life at a Time. He shared with the students about being pro-active and having the courage to take on new challenges. Our current circumstances are based on the decisions you made in the past and the circumstances of our future will be based on the decisions we make today. I loved the quote by Mary Oliver... "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" -Mary Oliver He showed at Steven Covey video about the end in mind. What achievements do you want to have by your 80th birthday? Write it down. make a personal mission statement. I have a personal mission statement I did years ago and pulled it out to review after our meeting. My mission statement starts like this... "Lead a life centered around the principles of integrity, honesty, fairness, and excellence." If you don't have a personal mission statement, it is actually a great exercise. If you have one, pull it out and review it again. Do you need to update it? The EWI of Richmond Women's Symposium will be here in just a few days. We have so many new faces to greet and to share the value of EWI. Thank you to so many for your hard work, creative ideas, time, talent, and family sacrifice to make this event a success. Lori G. is ready to knock your socks off with fun, laughter, and a ton of material. Be prepared to take some notes! I hope all have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and I will see you soon.
