Happy Spring Everyone! Don't you just love Richmond in the spring time?

Everything is in bloom from the flowers to the trees and the warm weather is returning. I hope that each of you can enjoy the beauty that nature brings our area at this time of year.

lcordreyHappy Spring Everyone! Don't you just love Richmond in the spring time?

Everything is in bloom from the flowers to the trees and the warm weather is returning. I hope that each of you can enjoy the beauty that nature brings our area at this time of year. I know that for those of you that could attend, you know that the EWI of Richmond March membership meeting was just so wonderful! Eva T. Hardy, our guest speaker, was just amazing. Her insights into working for highly visible leaders were priceless and what an amazing career life she has led. I just loved her eleventh commandment, "Take a risk, do something new or different". How fitting with the AmeriCorps to benefit the Southside Boys and Girls Club during the 2011-2012 school year to truly enhance our literacy commitment!

Also, the EWI Career Day at the Boys and Girls Club on March 22, 2011, was once again, a huge success. A special thank you to Kelly Kerr, Virginia Commonwealth University, for organizing such a wonderful event! Kudos to Angela Roisten, Virginia Credit Union, Valerie Derricott, Greater Richmond Partnership, Tonia Sharpe, SunTrust Bank, and the VCU AmeriCorps volunteers for sharing your professional knowledge with all of the Boys and Girls Club members. Special thanks goes to Kit Hull, Bill's Barbecue, Inc., Ann Bushey, Martin's Food Markets,  and VCU Catering for their donations that fed many, many hungry club members! Thank you, Sarah Scott, Dominion Resources, Inc., for your photography skills, and Brenda Long, Dominion Resources, Inc., and Kit Hull for your culinary assistance! Comments from the children and teens were all positive and all agreed they had fun! My favorite teen comment was "I had so much fun and I actually learned a lot, too".

Your board and committee chairs continue to work in preparation of upcoming meetings and special scholarship events such as our EWISP night on May 12, 2011 and our ASIST Night on July 14, 2011. Also, this month, the board and committee chairs will participate in a board to board teleconference with the Corporate Board. This will be a special time for us to share ideas and questions with Corporate, as well as hear the latest information and learn from them.

Coming up soon, Brenda Long and I will attend the EWI Spring Conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma, April 14-16, 2011. We are so looking forward to connecting with EWI representatives from across the country and immersing ourselves in professional development for just a few days. Christine Slate, Advisor, representing Barrett Capital Management, along with Michelle Lovatt, Parliamentarian, will be leading our April membership meeting on April 14, 2011. Please plan to attend this new and different Firm Night with Woody Funeral Home, Provider of Dignity Memorial to be held at SunTrust Bank. Brenda and I hate to miss but will be thinking of all of you!

All the best,

Lauren Cordrey
